How to Introduce Yourself in Hindi: Phrases, Tips, and Essential Vocabulary

Introducing yourself is the first step in any new language. In Hindi, making a great first impression is easy—and a lot of fun—when you know the right words and phrases. Whether you’re traveling to India, meeting Hindi speakers, or learning for fun, this guide will help you confidently say  "नमस्ते“(Namaste) and much more.

Step 1: Start With a Greeting



The most common way to greet in Hindi is “Namaste” (नमस्ते) or “Namaskar” (नमस्कार). Both are polite and friendly.You can also say “Hello” (हैलो), which is used in urban areas and among young people.

Step 2: Tell Your Name


The phrase is simple:“Mera naam [your name] hai.”(मेरा नाम [आपका नाम] है।)

Step 3: Tell Where You’re From


You can say where you are from using:“Main [country/city] se hoon.”(मैं [शहर/देश] से हूँ।)

Step 4: Say Your Age (Optional)

In India, age is sometimes asked early in conversations.“Main [age] saal ka/ki hoon.”(For males: ka, for females: ki)

Family is very important in India. Sharing about family is common.

Pro Tips for Practicing Your Hindi Introduction

  • Learn both formal and informal phrases. Use formal (aap) for respect, informal (tum/tu) with friends.

  • Make a script. Write your introduction and memorize it.
